Level: Beginner. Design a realistic box for an absurd product. The box can be a simple 6-sided product box, or more complex.  The box can be completely opaque or have windows. The box should be photographed in a virtual studio with a cyclorama and appear to be a photo used for an advertisement. In this project you will:

  • reinforce learning of lighting and rendering techniques
  • become familiar with concepts of UV texturing
  • review concepts of layout design in a 3D environment
  • explore themes of consumption and product diversity in a satirical nature to illuminate architypes in marketing culture

Typically, the product should be for something absurd that no one would actually want, but would have shelf presence such that the average shopper would believe it to be a real product (at least at first glance). While humor isn’t required for this assignment, humor and its application in design is an important tool in all communication. You are encouraged to develop a taste in comedy of some kind.

Render a 4k image of your box (3840 x 2160) as a 16bit .tif file and an 8bit .jpg.

The designs on the box must be yours. You design the typography, logo, and layout. Do not use AI generated images of any kind. You cannot use existing company designs. Everything should be fiction. Avoid stock photos as well. All images and designs should be your own.
